It has cost me a lot of money, time and effort to put
together a collection of thousands of data, and it will cost me more in future to build and maintain my collection. I therefore
request that anybody who uses my data pays me an appropriate fee. These fees are set at very low rates,
as you can read below.
If you do not have a reciprocal data trading agreement with me (or if you
publish more data than you trade with me), then fees apply if you wish to publish my data in any publication
or public media such as a website, mailing list, book, article or CD.
It does not matter if you take my data from my websites or from another person's data collection
(or wherever else you may get my data from), or if you get the data directly from me. The payment to me of fees applies to the
publication of any of my data regardless of the source, and regardless of what any other publisher may inform you,
and regardless of what you pay them.
It does not matter if you print only one of my data or a lot of them, I still ask you to make a donation
toward the maintenance of my collection. If many people publish only one or two of my data but don't pay me
(because they figure it's a small or insignificant amount), then I actually will miss out on a large slice of income.
Please also note that the conditions of use of my data not only include payment of the relevant fee,
but also that you notify me of the date and place of publication and that you include full attribution
to me as the data collector. (In the case of data you publish on the internet that includes a viable hyperlink back to my
website, www.syscholfield.com as part of the attribution).
Private Use of My Data
Free of charge. There is no fee for using my data in your own home, and
you're welcome to print out data and charts from my website/s for your personal use, as long as the page you print contains the
word or symbol acknowledging my copyright.
Publication of My Data on the Internet, in Books,
CDs, etc
The flat rate is USD$6 per datum for
publication on a website or in a book, CD, magazine article, mailing list, etc. The $6 covers republication of each data
in a reissue of a specific book, or in an updated version of a specific software programme for which the fee
has been paid.
For example, if you publish ten of my data in your book/CD in 2009
then there is a fee of $60. You can reprint the same ten data in a 2012 edition of the book or CD at no extra
charge. As long as you do not change the basic title and format of the book or CD then there is no charge for subsequent
editions. However, if you change your book into a CD or change your CD into a book then (even if you retain the same title)
the fee is $6 per data again.
If you publish one of my data on a mailing list then the fee is $6.
Method of Payment
You are welcome to include the publication details of the website, book, CD, mailing list
(including date), or whatever, in which you have published my data in a paypal message accompanying payment.
This constitutes 'notification.'
